Parents at AVCooperativeNS are required to:

  • Have a Clean Police Records Check. (a letter from the director can be provide so that the criminal record check is conducted FREE of charge at the Queensway police station). Applications are done On-line : https://www.ottawapolice.ca/en/about-us/Level-3---Vulnerable-Sector-Check.asp

  • Have your standard First Aid & CPR Level C certification IF you would like to volunteer in the classroom (once registration increases and parents are required to attend in-class, AVCNS will offer those of you who don't have their certificate an in-house training session at a reduced cost, run by one of our certified firefighter parents). The following are a few places which also offer Standard CPR Level C & First Aid:

  • Provide a Healthy Snack for the entire group of children (fruit, veggies, crackers OR cookies) On Birthdays or Special Occasions parents can provide "backed goodies" for the group *{Please be mindful of any allergies as well as trying your best to ensure that the baked goods are peanut, tree-nut and sesame free}

  • Provide One tissue Box per month your child attends at AVCNS. To make it easier on Parents, you can provide AVCNS with all 10 boxes of tissue in September (as the Nursery School year is 10 months in total).

  • Volunteer In-Class. (Once registration increases and educator/child ratios are over, the director will send out an email indicating when In-Class parent attendance is required. Until then, Enjoy your Quiet time and RELAX!)    

  • In lieu of volunteer In-Class, parents are required to contribute One-hour per month to help-out with various task that may arise during the Nursery School Year (Emails are sent our monthly with a task sheet requiring parental assistance) . 

  • Take home and do Laundry once a month (It's mostly towels and cloths :) 

  • Provide home-made playdough for the entire group (Playdough Recipes). You can buy the playdough brand form the shops, if you didn’t get round to making it the night before your duty-day. But HOME MADE IS A-GRADE :)  

  • Provide a healthy peanut and nut-free lunch for your child in a labelled lunch bag containing an ice-pack, to keep food fresh. (Applicable to: parents whose children have lunch at AVCNS)

  • Attend Parent Board meetings once a month to give your input and feedback about AVCNS.  

  • Attend the Annual General Meeting (AGM) in June.
